- Who say any thing about old SVGA chips ? The current accelerators chips
- have 64-bit drawing engines with 64-bit DRAM/VRAM interface. They can do
- Rectangle fill, line draw, BitBLT, Polygon fill, Polygon clipping,
- Panning/Scolling, Bit masking, ALU and scissoring in up to 32-bit modes.
-
- I am talking about $200 ATI video card with 2 meg RAM here for the PC.
- The 1 Meg version cost about $110 U.S. Most clone shop up here won't even
- bundle a $60 simple SVGA card.

- Your information is totally out of date (about 7 years). Got to a reality
- check. Read up on the graphics chips that are available. Some of the
- older BYTE & rags probably did a few specials by now. For your
- information, the 3rd parties Amiga cards ARE built with off the shelf PC
- SVGA accelerators chips. No one uses simple SVGA chips. (Are they still
- being made ?)

- Note the keywords: "simple SVGA" and "fancy custom chipset". You have
- that reversed ! Let me put it this way...
-
- ATI is one of the graphics chips & card manufacturer that I am familiar
- with. Their main business is designing graphics chips and graphics cards.
- They made $85 Million sales in 1995 and they have 600 employees. They
- run trade shows 4 times a year and usually have new products to show.
- Right now their chips run at 135MHz, have 64-bit data bus and engine.
-
- Amiga Technology is at 1/10 the size... As is, AT is busy trying to get new
- products and systems made. They probably need to have 25 - 50 engineers
- delicated to chips design full time for a few years just to catch up.
- Right now the AGA runs at 28MHz, have 32-bit bus and 16-bit engine.
